Bag-ong Kahayag
A community that is so lively and easy to love.
Bag-ong Kahayag was called “Misue” where it was once inhabited by Subanons. It is located in the middle of the forest. It was named “Misue” because before reaching this place they have to cross many rivers. Misue is a Subanon term which means river.
Misue was a sitio of barangay Salagmanok and one has to pass this Barangay before reaching the place. Misue is 12 kilometers away from the national highway. People reached this place by foot hiking mountains, passing rivers and crossing deep muddy soil. When they reached this new place, it was very dark. Big tall trees covered the place that even rays of light cannot even penetrate through the rich foliage.
Many years passed by, there were Visayan inhabitants in this place. They reached here passing from barangay Diplo and some passing in barangay Tigbao purposely to look for cheap lands.
Several years later, this sitio was proclaimed as a barangay. They appointed Mr. Felix Quimbo as a Kapitandel Barrio for he was known to be a kind man with a passion to serve the people.
In the year 1962, Misue was visited by two loggers who came to cut trees for them to export. When the trees were cut, light made its way to the land. People were so happy they finally found the light in what was once a very dark place. It was because of this new found light, they finally changed the name of the place into Barangay Bag-ong Kahayag.
Since this place is known to people throughout the country, it became more popular when one of the barangay captain Mr. Camilo Ortega the successor of barangay captain Felix Quimbo became the most outstanding barangay capain throughout Zamboanga del Sur. He received a gold medal from our former president Ferdinand E. Marcos at Pagadian City during the creation of Pagadian as one of the city of Zamboanga del Sur.
